What is Tarot?

So I want to talk a little bit about tarot and perhaps break some of thefears that come along with it. I myself was raised as a catholic, and as I grew older I was curious about other religions and lifestyles around the world. Being the big book worm that I am, I found myself at bookstores pretty often. Empowering feel good books excite me, most of my favorites where considered New Age. I was very drawn to metaphysics, manifestation, alchemy, and ancient teachings. All so magnetic to me! Learning about our ancestors and their natural way of living just fascinates me. Well here I am over a decade and a half later still learning about such topics. I found that..

Tarot is a simple divination tool to help empower oneself

when in need of guidance.

How does tarot work?

Tarot is all about intention from the person receiving the reading, if there’s fear involved while reading tarot, then you probably might not like the cards you pull. Tarot decks consist of 78 cards; 22 of them represent major life changes (Major Arcana). The other 56 cards are divided into four categories that represent other aspects of your life (Minor Arcana) such as finances, family, health, and love. And FYI, Your fate is not set in stone, the cards reflect what is going on with you and your energy at the time of the reading. They are a great tool for guidance when one is feeling "stuck," stagnant, or in need of guidance. So in essence, tarot is a reflection based on the law of attraction. The Universal Law of Attraction states; “What you thinketh, you attract.” (Learn more about the law of attraction here.)

So why the resistance?

Some people resist tarot thanks to Hollywood. They’ll show a scene of the main character going to a brick and mortar with bright purple neon lights that say “Psychic.” Then they’ll enter into a candle lit room where a woman (almost always!) Who is dressed like a gypsy welcomes you to read your cards.  99 % of the time she’ll pull a scary death card. So dramatic right!? Well to tell you the truth the death card actually means the ending or finalization of something in your life; the end of a chapter per se. Well guess what? We all experience closures through out our lives, it’s a natural cycle and part of being human in this world. Each season must have its death before the next is born. Ok so I’m getting too metaphorical here.

My point is, that Tarot helps tell the story of a situation in your life, it’s like seeing through someone else's eyes. It doesn’t invoke the devil, raise the dead, and you won't go to "hell"or anything like that. Rumor has it, gypsies where the ones who brought the cards from Egypt, but in reality this was a creation of the Italians! Yes, tarot started as a parlor game among the Italians! Well, it wasn’t long before some started noticing the correlation between the cards and their own lives. Some of the elite decided to get some power from these cards and decided to make the cards hard to read by commissioning artists to make their own set with pictures that only they understood. Unfortunately, those pictures came with fear based visuals that were not too enticing! Thank God for Radleigh Valentine, and Doreen Virtue who decided to make their own set of cards by making them with lovely art and good intentions. It was such a pleasure meeting them both and learning how to do readings professionally myself! And although they’ve gone their separate ways, I’m so thankful for them fulfilling that part of their life purpose for some of us!

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! PEOPLE ARE BECOMING MORE OPEN TO TAROT THESE DAYS AND ACTUALLY FIND VALUE FROM THE MESSAGES THE CARDS BRING. BECAUSE IT’S LIKE A STRANGER READING YOUR STORY OUT LOUD!  I MYSELF ENJOY GIVING READINGS TO MY CLIENTS AND WATCHING THEM SEE NEW PERSPECTIVES; “A HA” MOMENTS, AND VALIDATIONS AS WELL.
